Desi & Lucy on life

Rose Festival 2006

We had a very exciting day today!  Momma Gail took us to the Dragon Boat races on the Willamette river.  Both f use are not sure how to pronounce the word Willamette but once we heard someone rhyme it with a bad word that started with a "d".  Anyhow we walked together over the Hawthorne Birdge, which was a little scary because the cars were going really fast and the bikes were coming right for us on the sidewalk.  We had a few close calls but mom took good care of us.  Sometimes she even picked us up and we watched the boats with the dragons on them belowDsc02234  us in the river.

One little Lhasa camed and played with us.

We saw so many dogs go by-it was doggie Dsc02239watching heaven for us

Then we had brunch and met some more new friends , Jeff and Dave who held us in their laps for a few minutes while mom got her breakfast.

After breakfast another Lhaso came over to visit with us, but we forgot his name. Then we walked back over the big bridge with our friend Danella.  We went to her house to get her big big dog Henry.  Henry is a big poodle and we barked at him a lot.  Desi growled at him and I (Lucy) barked until he walked away from us.  We wanted him to know who was boss even if it was his back yard.  Then he rode in Mom's car with us.  We did not want to ride with him- he would have smooshed us.  So we rode in the front with Danella.  Mom drove slow and was very careful because we are not supposed to ride in the front of the car.

Well tomorrow is aother big day.   We get to see our Grandma DeeDee and our Aunt Reba

Humpday

Yesterday mom took us to the hospital again to see Aunt Alice.  This trip we were greeted by many people who remembered us from the day before.  They said that we were the cutest therapy dogs they had seen in a long time.  Who are these other dogs?  Anyhow, Alice was feeling much better and we both got to sit with her on her bed this time while she was awake.  Desi tried to steal her crackers fro her lunch and me, Lucy the angel just sat on her knees.

When we got home we were taken to the Portland Jr Rose Parade near our house.  There were a lot of loud noises that sounded like boom, boom, and kids singing and yelling.  Desi said it upset her ears to mom and we had to leave after 20 minutes.  Desi was so upset she upchucked.  She is a very emotional sister.

This morning Desi has a very upset tummy, it is making noises like there is a cat inside her tummy. I am hoping it quiets down so mom can get some work done on the phone and I can get some rest. A girl needs her beauty sleep.  This weekend we get to play with a new dog friend who was just born named misty lou.  Her owner is Aunt Lisa.  We have a lot of Aunts not Ants.  In fact we have another Aunt Lisa who has a dog named, ummm, uhhh, we forget.  But it's a BIG dog and very excited to see us.  it stepped on my back paw and I cried - big dogs forget there is little dog play etiquette when we are smaller.  Only we are allowed to step on THEIR paws.

Here is a picture of Misty Lou.Mistylou2 She looks a little like Desi and a little like Lucy

Hospital Visits

Hi everyone,  mom took us to the hospital to visit our Aunt Alice today who had hip surgery.  We got put on our double leash and walked in together like the little princesses we are.  People made funny sounds at us, Lucy thought they were hissing like we both think a snake sounds, but I thought they were making the usual people sounds make at us when they pet us and tell us how cute we are.  Anyhow the last time mom took us to the hospital she put Lucy in a suitcase and wheeled her in and carried me under her arm in a bag.  She knows we are therapy dogs but she thought it would be funnier to smuggle us in with her friend Debbie's daughters boyfriend.  That sounds confusing but it's not supposed to be.  He was a good kid, he petted us a lot and apologized for our mother being silly.  We love her anyway.   She does it a lot and we are used to it.  She also wears a clown hat that jingles and has bells on it.  People give her funny looks and then look down at us and figure out we are a team.  Then they start making those funny sounds at us again.

So back to the hospital today.  Aunt Alice was happy to see us, but she was not feeling well today and yawned and stuff came out of her mouth into a pink bucket.  It smelled funny.  We hid our heads under the covers hoping we didn't make her sick.  Then Lucy fell asleep while Alice was holding her and I (Desi) was being sang to by Aunt Alice's friend Abbe  who changed her voice when she spoke to us.  People do that a lot around us, so we are used to it.

Here we are with Abbe posing for mom.

Later today we went to a new coffee shop and were asked to leave.  It was so hot outside my mom was not too happy with the barista, so she ordered very fast and found a shady spot for us to sit. Then we met a nice lady  who took us for a walk with our mom.  It was so hot out, we had to pretend we were smelling things to get our mom and her friend to slow down.  Then we got fed ice cubes which we call Popsicles, they were yummy- oh and a bonie also.  The nice lady we met today changed her voice like the Abbe lady in the hospital.  We are not quite sure why people do this when they speak to us, perhaps they have allergies.

When we got home, the neighbor boy was bouncing his basketball and it scared us.  We didn't even want to walk by him to get into the house, so we froze in our paw-tracks.  Mom had to pick us both up because we wouldn't budge. When we got inside mom said we smelled sweaty and gave us both baths.  We usually hate baths- but today we didn't fight it because we got cooled off with some cold water- one for the little Shih Tzu's!!

The Power of Dogs

Hi everyone,

This is our first blog, so we will do the best we can to keep you updated on our exciting lives.  Our mommy Gail is a writer, so she will be typing for us because the keys all go down at once when we put our paws down.

First of all we have two houses that we live in.  We used to live in one for several years with our two moms, but then there was a lot of door slamming and then some boxes where mommy Gail put stuff in them and moved to another house that also has a nice yard like our first house that our moms took us home to.  We use a really cool doggie ramp at Momma Gail's house that our Aunt Jo built for us.  She carpeted it and it goes from the cold basement floor up to a window where there is a cool doggie door for us to jump out of.  We think this is fitting for us, especially the carpet part, that way mom won't wipe our paws with the towel, we don't like the towel too much because it reminds us of the BATH.  Speaking of which, the only part of the baths we like is the part when mommy hugs us in the towel really close after the bath.  We tolerate the bath because if the hug and bonies we get afterwards.

Our mom takes us to all these places where older people hug us and tell us we are good girls. The places smell good and we look for crumbs in a place where there is food but we can't see it, we can just smell it.  We are very good crumb cleaner- uppers.  Mom catches us sometimes and she tells us to: "Drop it" and we have to comply or we get in trouble.  She doesn't spank us, she just scolds us with ":that voice" and it scares us, so we listen to her most of the time.  We are told we are very good girls by most everyone we meet.  Oh and that we are so well behaved and adorable.  Did we mention that we are good girls....very obedient.  We get rewarded quite a bit for our good behavior.  We love the car, we love to be in the car even if it is hot- but not too hot.

Mom Gail has a doggie cushion for us where we rest until our next adventure.  We understand the words: bonie, cookie, park, walkie, pischee (that's yiddish for PEE) and of course the words: sit, stay, OK (that means we can run to our mom) and roll over.  Lucy does not roll over all the way, but I do (Desi).  Ok next time Lucy can write.   Paws up!

Momma Gail says don't forget to check out our photo album...
